Rebekka Sandmeier appointed as the new director of the South African College of Music
On March 1 Rebekka Sandmeier was appointed the new director of the South African College of Music. 104 years after opening under the leadership of Apoline Niay-Darroll, the SACM is once again headed by a woman. Sandmeier is a historical musicologist with a keen interest in early music. Born in Berlin, Germany, she studied at Trinity College Dublin and worked in musicological departments at various German universities before coming to UCT in 2011. During her tenure as director she intends to make working and studying at the SACM a most valuable and pleasant experience for both students and staff.
